Hollywood

Our main Institution (film fraternity) is Hollywood so I did some research on exactly what hollywood is and what are the prominent features or codes and conventions there are that are followed in the world of Hollywood film industry.

The cinema of the United States, is also known as Hollywood.

American films are divided into two categories: Blockbusters and independent films. A successful Blockbuster earns enough to cover the expenditure and a lot of profit on top of it. It also gathers audience of all ages and classes. e.g. The moves of James Bond are watched by people who do not even understand English.

Films:
According to wikipedia: "Since Hollywood belongs to USA the films made under the banner of Hollywood are in English. Today the movies are sold worldwide. Every country where people know little English, Hollywood films are sold there if not on cinemas then in market they are available for sure. Hollywood films worldwide are known because of the famous Action movies of 'James Bond' Romantic movies like 'Sleepless in Seattle' and Cartoon movies like 'Cinderella'  etc"

The reason why everybody was so mesmerized by Hollywood films was the advanced technology they used in James Bond movies and all other similar products. Hollywood for the first time showed Action/ Adventure where the protagonist fights against quite a number of Antagonists and manages to get out of the fight for his princess alive and energetic enough to have a romantic kiss in the end. Even this narrative in the films is set by Hollywood.

Budget:
Shooting costs could easily amount to $500,000 a day for 100 days.
But because the budgeting and accounting of films are nornally a secret, it is not clear that which movie is the most expensive movie till now, however, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest and its sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End are said to be the one with the budget of $450 Million.
However, after the release of Avatar, it is assumed that it is the most expensive movie produced. Revenues unknown though.

Media Houses:
Wikipedia says: "In the North American, often simply known as the majors, are commonly regarded as the six diversified media conglomerates whose various movie production and distribution subsidiaries command approximately 90 percent of the U.S. and Canadian box office."

The "Big Six" majors, whose movies are made under the banner of Hollywood and are located in USA. In the Golden age In three cases—20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Paramount—the studios were one of the "Big Five" majors during that era as well. In two cases—Columbia and Universal—the studios were also considered majors, but in the next tier down, part of the "Little Three." In the sixth case, Walt Disney Studios was an independent production company during the Golden Age; it was an important Hollywood entity, but not a major.

Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. (CPII) is an American film production and distribution company. Columbia Pictures now forms part of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, a subsidiary chain  of the Japanese conglomerate Sony. It is one of the leading film companies in the world, a member of the so-called Big Six. It was one of the so-called Little Three among the eight major film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age.
